So today was a pretty darn nice Saturday, if quiet. Quiet is good!
Went and bought a present for the Bridal Shower I'm going to tomorrow--in Winthrop, which might be two hours away. I've never been there before, I have no idea how far it is. Ugh.
It occurs to me, that after Steph has her wedding in June, I will have attended a wedding every year since 2004.
Seriously. Let's run down my wedding history (and known future):
-August 2002, Maid of Honor.
-October 2004, guest (former roommate).
-August 2005, bridesmaid (best wedding EVER).
-October 2006, guest (blown out tire--Millinockett wedding).
-June 2007, bridesmaid-to-be (last roommate).
-Summer 2008, guest (so far as I know).
6 weddings in as many years. This boggles my mind. I don't have that many friends--why is everyone getting married already?! We're so young! (This comes from the daughter of parents who married at 21 and 24. Good lord, I'm almost older than them. Also,
zoe_chan, you are the exception to this rule. I love your husband and your wedding was made of win, and you are both clearly old enough to be married and keep your friends. ;) Ignore all this.) I *will* be the last of us to have a wedding, I can TELL (
aradiachiba, you can't even argue with this anymore--or, not with the same reason). And by the time I attend next summer's wedding (I mean, I *assume* I'll be *invited* but given whose wedding it is, YOU NEVER KNOW), I will have been IN *half* of them. AND? The 2004 bride now has two sons, and the 2006 bride is due to have a baby girl in July. Aren't people in my generation supposed to be all about waiting to get married and start families? Why are my friends not these people?
Also, not so impressed that the wedding rehearsal is scheduled for 4:30 on a Friday afternoon when school gets out at 3:30 and I will be teaching in a school a whole two hour drive away from the wedding location.
I'm a bridesmaid, you'd think I should maybe be there! *facepalm*
The nice thing about this is that every time I'm in a wedding or I attend one, I turn to Mom and say "when I get married..." and now we have a Whole List of Things-To-Do-Or-Not-Do. (For instance, Do: make sure all members of wedding party can make it to rehearsal before setting time for rehearsal. Don't: Get married in a snowmobile lodge, or have guests BYOB.)
Now all I need is, you know, A GROOM.
I'm not actually COMPLAINING so much as expressing a general "bwah?" feeling. *I* am not ready for marriage and family, but that doesn't mean I think everyone should feel the same way I do. I'm just amazed at how MANY of my friends don't!
On another note, I will be RIDICULOUSLY busy for the next few months. ZOMG.
The weekends of May:
This weekend--Steph's bridal shower.
Next weekend--Mother's Day.
Weekend after--
zoe_chan's birthday!! (Not that I have plans, but this is how I mark time in May.)
Weekend after--Mom's birthday, and Memorial Day.
Memorial Day week--I start long-term subbing for fifth grade, YAY! (Which means fulltime teaching again.)
June!
One of those first two weekends, I have to come see you,
aradiachiba, and take you up on the offer to alter my dress. =D Plus, the three of us need a weekend, since our Writing Weekend fell through. Also,
zoe_chan has Batman/Superman episodes I need to see, yes?
June 16th--Steph's wedding
June 23rd--LEAVE FOR NORWAY!!!!!!!!!! ZOMG IT IS ALMOST HERE! *flail*
I can't believe it. 9 Saturdays from RIGHT NOW I will be ON AN AIRPLANE somewhere over the Atlantic, heading for Oslo. The family's only been talking about going for my ENTIRE LIFE and now that it's almost here? I don't know what to do with myself.
But yes, we are going to Norway for TWO WHOLE WEEKS. Mom, my grandmother, my aunt, my brother and I. This could get VERY interesting. ;) Also, apparently my grandmother's cousin is planning a family reunion in honor of our visit.
O_O
Let me put this into perspective: These 5 people? ARE my family, with the exception of my honorary aunt Mary, and two second cousins. We are a small family. Think the groom's side of My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
In Norway... my great-grandmother was one of 9 children--and their father was one of 18, and they all had many children--she had the smallest family, with three. They all have kids, who all have kids, who probably all have kids!
I could well be related to half the country.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THIS! And I don't speak the language. I need to get some learn-to-speak-norwegian tapes, pronto.
On the upnote, my brother and I might meet relatives OUR OWN AGE. *gasp*
So we're spending a few days in Oslo, then heading across country to Bergen where my grandfather was born and spending the end of week 1. Then we come back to Tonsberg, where my grandmother was born and raised and where my aunt and mom were born and they lived until Mom was 6. We stay there the last week. It should be an awesome trip.
In the midst of this craziness, it looks like we will be house hunting because everyone agrees Mom's arthritis has gotten to the point where she needs a one-story home. And instead of going for something two-story with a first-floor bedroom, we acknowledge the fact that my brother and I will move out one day and go for a ranch--or a condo. She's hoping for a condo, and my aunt is ON US to start looking NOW.
Pardon me while I freak out at THAT idea. Throw moving into this mix?
Oh, and one can NEVER forget the EVER LOOMING job search of necessary doooooom. >_<
Expect some frantic lj posts.
That, and I want to finish my fic of implausible science and soul-searching before I leave for Norway, but likely won't have MUCH time once teaching starts so... I should be writing that now instead of this post.
Huh.
Edit: Oh! Also!!! Today was Free Comic Book Day and I ♥ it. Immensely. I got JLA 0, and bought the new Buffy while I was at it. I am very much enjoying Buffy season 8, I must confess.
I don't think it's possible to have a bad day when comics--especially FREE comics--are involved.
Now I need to go write something or
xenokattz will yell at me and beat me with rum when she returns. Although, rum? Never BAD.

I know we've said this before, but I am so with you on the 'bwah?'-ness. Not trying to be critical in any way, but just not getting it. This may or may not have anything to do with the fact that my mind operates like that of a five-year-old.
COOTIES!ashjdajdk NORWAY OMG am so jealous!! Good luck with the language and your half-the-country-sized family. ;)
Free days are fun - you just reminded me that the local coffeeshop's giving away free iced lattes this weekend. Mmm. (Also, WHY is there no coffee icon??)
