Save the cheerleader. Save the world.

I'm in a better mood today, for whatever reason. I'm not knocking it. ;)
So we watched the entire first season of Heroes in three days. Yes, 23 episodes in 3 days. I feel like I should rewatch it now because all the episodes kind of blur together, but--it makes me happy. I love that show.
I could listen to Mohinder talk ALL THE TIME. Randomly.
But what amuses me is my mother. Who, all year, would ask "why don't you watch this show?" and I would say "because I missed the first few episodes, I'm going to wait until I can watch it from the beginning." And she would constantly ask what it was about, and I would say "I'm not sure, people get superpowers and have to save the world--it's like a comic book movie, on TV."
And every. single. time. I said this, Mom would say "oh, I thought it was about normal people being heroes." I cannot emphasize how many times we had this conversation. And I would laugh every time because, hello! Deja-vu!
But we started watching and Mom says "this is not what I thought this show would be about."
3 guesses as to what she thought it would be about, and the first two don't count. She had selective amnesia about what this show was about.
So she spends the first 9 episodes griping about how 'violent' it is and how it's not what she thought it was and I said "you know, you don't have to watch with me, I can watch it by myself."
And Mom says "well, now I have to know what happens."
She complains after every episode and claims she doesn't like it, but by the last two episodes she changed her mind.
After we watched the finale, she wouldn't stop talking about it. I am AMUSED. We went to dinner Monday night with my brother and Mom spent the entire time talking about the show. HA!!
Also, she said something about Peter and Claire that amused me. Cutting because
zoe_chan needs to see this show. It's not a huge spoiler and I knew it before we started watching, but.
So when Claire's father turned out to be Nathan, I said "yay! Peter's her uncle!"
Mom said "that's a good thing?"
Me: Yeah, why not?
Mom: Because... well, I thought she and Peter *liked* each other. I thought they might get together.
Me: Mom. She's *16.* He's gotta be at least 10 years older than her!
Mom: That's not that much older.
Me: Right, so when I bring home my 34 year old boyfriend, I'll remind you of that.
Mom: Well, if he's *nice.*
Me: Okay, when I was 16, if I'd had a 26 year old boyfriend? Not only would you have flipped out, but it would have been illegal. Jailbait.
Mom: ....Shut up.
I am still amused by this.

Date: 2007-09-05 08:02 pm (UTC)And Sylar's a great villain. He's just so perfectly creepy and malevolent and I'm just fascinated by him. In a love-to-hate way. I don't like him.
And, yeah, Mohinder's great. But when you hear the actor speak, it's weird.
I couldn't get into Niki's story, really. I would get bored with her and want them to get back to anybody else.

Date: 2007-09-06 05:04 pm (UTC)Because OMG SO MUCH HIRO AND ANDO LOVE. I want to wrap them in cotton and surround Hiro with comic books and just--put them in my pocket. Especially Hiro.
However, GEORGE TAKAI FOR THE WIN. OMG. Hiro's father. I had convulsions of joy in those last episodes. GAH.
Sylar scares the bejesus out of me. HE EATS BRAINS. Also, my mother thinks he's dead. I am not disillusioning her with my logic, which says WE NEVER SAW A BODY AND LOOKIT! OPEN MANHOLE!!! >_<
Is it? I haven't gotten around to looking for anything about the show yet. I really... might, though. =P I definitely need some icons. YOURS IS THE BEST EVER.
I got very bored with Niki. I didn't like her very much--but I liked DL and Micah, just not as much as the others.
Also, I want to know more about the parents. Mrs. Petrelli is so awesome and scary and I'm a little frightened and in awe of her at once. Mom thinks she's the most powerful person on the PLANET. ;)
Also--we were watching and Mom turned to me and said "Simone is boring me, I don't want to see her anymore. Can they get to someone else now?" and LITERALLY ten minutes later, Simone died.
I told my mother that if she had similar opinions about anyone I liked, she needed to keep her mouth shut. ;)

Date: 2007-09-06 05:36 pm (UTC)I have lots of thinky thoughts about Hiro and Ando and their relationship. I love them.
Just...the actor who plays Mohinder was raised in TEXAS. But his accent sounds pretty authentic to me (granted, a person who's never been to either England or India).
I love this icon so much. What makes Heroes better? When it is mixed with MST3K, says I!
Did you know there are online graphic novels to read? There's some info about the parents there. And the other characters like Wireless or Candice. (And the most recent one is about ANDO FTW!!) You don't have to, but they are very interesting. You can start here.
Yeah, I'm dying to know more about the parents. Please to be giving us lots of backstory.
How do you feel about the younger Petrellis? I like Nathan the best, then Peter, then Claire. I can't figure out why I don't like Peter more. I don't dislike him by any means, but he's not my favorite, and I rather thought he would be.
And I loved Isaac. "Mr. Eee-zack!" Wah, I don't want him to be dead!! And he was just so brave, and he sent off his comic book so they could know how to get rid of Sylar and then he died anyway...gah! Oh, Isaac.
In conclusion: HEROES STARTS AGAIN IN, LIKE, THREE WEEKS YATTA YATTA YATTA!

Date: 2007-09-06 04:56 pm (UTC)This is why we cast him as Dick Grayson. Before we watched "Heroes" or he said he'd like to play him. BWEEEEE.

You can't make me stop that pairing in my mind no matter what you say. Stronger people than you have tried.
