GO PATRIOTS!!!!

I am a happy, happy football fangirl right now. Oh. My. God.

WHAT A SEASON. OH BRADY BUNCH, I LOVE YOU!

So--16-0, a PERFECT SEASON for the first time since the Dolphins in 72 (and they were 12-0). And Tom Brady and Randy Moss both broke NFL season records and the team broke the scoring record for the season and OMG I don't know what to do with myself, I love my team!

::falls over::

But good lord, boys, did you HAVE to make it such a nail-biting game?!

But you know, the fact that we were behind for most of the game kind of made me perversely feel reassured--we are nothing if not good at the come from behinds!

Now, I need some wine. (Mind you, I *had* wine. I also had nails and nerves when the game started.)

Now, I have to say a little bit about the simulcasting.

So, the big deal is that the Patriots, unlike many other teams, are not *one* state's team. They are not *Boston's* team *exclusively.* (Okay, does the fact that here in Maine a lot of us consider Boston "our" city as much as we also whine and complain about Massholes during tourist season complicate things?) In any case--and if you live in a state other than Maine or Mass and the Pats are your team, let me know if you agree--the Pats (and the Red Sox and the Celtics) are the team of the REGION.

They are not the Boston Patriots, they are the NEW ENGLAND Patriots. (Okay, and the Boston Red Sox are also the region's, but I digress.) I think sometimes the rest of the country might not realize how much Maine loves the Pats, and how much the Pats are *our* team as much as Massachusetts'.

Or, anyway, the NFL network didn't seem to. I've known about the NFL network blockage since September--the fact that the local channels in Boston would get to air the game (because, you know, HOME TEAM). But that here in Maine, which is outside the local channels' range--no game for us. Time Warner--Maine's largest cable company--has been trying since then to get the NFL network to let them air the game, even as a pay-per-view. NFL kept saying no.

Needless to say, this was Very Upsetting.

They held out all season and waited until the 26th to decide to simulcast the game. The news did stories all last week about how excited the sports bars were--as they were going to be able to air the game, they were going to be SWAMPED tonight--and how mad and upset the rest of the state was.

So--I am so thrilled the NFL caved and the commercial that aired about it during the beginning of the game was hilarious and I loved it.

But in the end--THAT WAS A FREAKING AWESOME GAME AND I HAVE GLEE! YAY FOR MY TEAM!

*note: I am not, have never been, will never be a Fair Weather Fan. This is the frustration of having a good season. For all of my childhood, the Pats pretty much sucked and still I loved them. I am just saying.
