Oh, memes are fun.

I am stealing memes from
xenokattz and
penknife today!
When you see this, post your favourite poem in your journal.
Maybe not my favorite, but one of them!
The sea awoke at midnight from its sleep,
And round the pebbly beaches far and wide
I heard the first wave of the rising tide
Rush onward with uninterrupted sweep;
A voice out of the silence of the deep,
A sound mysteriously multiplied
As of a cataract from the mountain's side,
Or roar of winds upon a wooded steep.
So comes to us at times, from the unknown
And inaccessible solitudes of being,
The rushing of the sea-tides of the soul;
And inspirations, that we deem our own,
Are some divine foreshadowing and foreseeing
Of things beyond our reason or control.
~Henry Wordsworth Longfellow, "The Sound of the Sea", Masque of Pandora and Other Poems, 1875

Rec three communities you enjoy that people on your friends list may not have heard of.
halfamoon: 14 days of fannish women celebrating! Yay!
14valentines: 14 days of celebrating women and women's issues. Kind of cool!
nanoflail: I loved this comm this November--smaller and less intimidating than other NaNoWriMo comms, and very fun.

And another one!
I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes office supplies." I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this (which we all know won't happen). Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal. In return, ask me anything you'd like to know about me and I'll give you an answer. [edit by Katt: I reserve the right to weasel my way out of certain questions I consider too private because I'm a crochety intarwebs dinosaur.]
...Keeping Katt's edit, because--ditto!

Date: 2009-02-04 02:41 am (UTC)I painted 2 murals in my high school and got out of MINIMUM 10% of all my class time because of that.
I'd like to know what your favourite outfit is.

Date: 2009-02-04 03:30 am (UTC)And... do pajamas count? Specifically cotton nightgowns? No? Oh. Probably jeans and comfortable t-shirts. A fashionista I am not. Comfort over style, unless I'm working, in which case--something comfortable that is professional and that I can sit on the floor with. (You'd be surprised how often elementary teachers do that.)
My favorite shoes are sandals. I do not like socks.

Date: 2009-02-04 11:39 pm (UTC)Well, I might be considered a grown up. ;) I have my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and my teaching certificate. I'm currently in my third year of job searching, woo. >_< Continuing to substitute teach until I can hopefully someday have my own classroom, but the economy is not making this look promising. ::sigh:: So--when I grow up, I want to have my own classroom! (And I wouldn't mind writing novels, but I'd need to actually work on *original* stuff for that. ;) And there's the usually "have a family" thing.)

Date: 2009-02-04 11:30 pm (UTC)Do you have a favorite kind of car? If so, what?

Date: 2009-02-04 11:45 pm (UTC)I'm not sure if I have a favorite kind... I really would love a Prius or some kind of hybrid. I've owned two cars--my grandfather's, when he could no longer drive, and now my grandmother's, after she died. I have to say that I am very much in love with my little blue Camry at the moment, but my mother recently traded in her minivan for a Nissan Rogue and it is ADORABLE. (Possibly it earns many many points or the heated seats and remote start. Hmm.)
...Anyway, I am looking forward to some day being able to pick out my own car and not inherit one from unhappy circumstances. But my Camry is cute and has locks that work! (My Buick did not.)
...I really am long-winded, aren't I?
